At the legislature today, Representative John Mizuno will introduce his Sports Gaming Bill, which aims to open Oʻahu’s first single, stand-alone sports book and card room with a 10-year license.

The indictment alleges the gambling operation consisted of sports betting, poker and craps games, and used an offshore gaming website. The indictment further alleges the illegal gambling business operated out of a water company business located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Authorities say police seized 33 suspected illegal gambling machines, suspected gambling records and large sums of cash while executing search warrants of the businesses on Friday, July 20, 2012.

One bill seeks to repeal junior kindergarten programs; another proposes a fee collection for single-use checkout bags; and a separate measure proposes the establishment of a nine-member gambling commission to analyze of the social and economic costs and benefits of different forms of gambling in Hawaii.

The House Tourism committee holds a public hearing today on a bill that would allow a 20-year license for a stand-alone casino in Waikiki.

Several bills introduced by Maui lawmakers will be heard in respective House committees today including items relating to red light cameras, vehicle boot legislation, gaming on Hawaiian Home lands, and the House version of what has become known as the “Move Over” bill.

Rep. Carroll of Maui introduced a gaming bill seeking authorization of gaming on Hawaiian home lands; Rep. Souki will introduce a bill seeking a 20 year license for a single casino in Waikiki.

A bill that would legalize bingo on Hawaiian Homelands has passed out of the HAW Committee.

The House Judiciary Committee this afternoon will hear bills relating to the legalization of gaming in Hawaii.  The bill was introduced by Rep.
