#New Year’s Day

Kristine Norita had to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks from her car as her husband drove her to Hilo Medical Center after going into labor with their fifth child.

The Shops at Wailea welcomes multi-talented Maui musician Mark Johnstone to Jazz at The Shops on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020. The free New Year’s Day performance will take place in the upper level luxury wing at The Shops at Wailea from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Firefighters responded to a medical-assist incident which an adult male suffered injuries to his face. Fire officials say injuries were caused by the unexpected ignition of aerial fireworks that did not immediately ignite.

While many Mauians were home watching college football or spending time with family, a few water enthusiasts found their way to Kahului Harbor on New Year’s Day.
