Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa has been selected as part of a small delegation of mayors that is visiting Taiwan to promote economic and cultural exchange with the US.
With an estimated 25 sister city relationships already established on Maui, committee members debated the creation of yet another partnership overseas, this time with Goyang, South Korea.
Mayor Arakawa: As the US and Korea come closer in finalizing the free-trade agreement, the sister city relationship will improve opportunities for the next generation.
Under the agreement, Seo-gu Mayor Park Hwan-yong of Daejeon will join the Seo-gu delegation in promoting Maui County as a future leisure and business travel destination for the people of South Korea.
Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa travels to O’ahu this week to attend a Sister City Conference in Honolulu. The conference is a preliminary summit to the APEC Conference happening in Hawaii in November.
