The Erdman family celebrates 50 years of ownership of ʻUlupalakua Ranch, located on the leeward slopes of Haleakalā on Maui.

Forecasters say radar at 3:44 p.m. showed a thunderstorm with heavy rain near Ulupalakua, or about 19 miles south of Kahului. The area of rain was moving South at about 5 miles per hour.

The Ulupalakua Sparkles event is one of four seasonal Sunday Drive presentations honoring the different aspects of this unique historic area.
