Lawmakers will discuss the cause of Oahu’s islandwide power outage that knocked out power on the day after Christmas to more than 282,000 customers. The Senate Committee on Energy and the Environment will meet on January 14th for an informational briefing to go over reasons behind the extended outage and plans to prevent future incidents.  HECO officials hope to release preliminary findings by the end of the week.
There were reports of lightning strikes in the vicinity of power lines, however further investigation was being conducted to determine the actual cause of the power outage.
