From Maui to metro, Melissa Torres becomes the latest addition to the CBS affiliate, KLAS Eyewitness News 8 in Las Vegas.  Torres was hired as the station’s morning traffic anchor where she will oversee the viewer segment entitled, “What’s Driving You Crazy?”

Torres was born in San Pedro, California, but moved to Maui at the age of 5.  She graduated from Maui Community College with an Associate Arts degree with an emphasis in Television Production, and completed her education at the University of Las Vegas with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism.

While on Maui, Torres worked as a co-anchor for the news magazine show “On Maui” where she developed her skills in writing and producing news segments.  In 2003, she obtained an academic scholarship from the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters.

While attending UNLV, the KLAS station biography notes that Melissa was selected to work in New York City at CBS for a News Summer Internship Program.  After graduating from UNLV, she reportedly got her first taste of Las Vegas traffic, when she worked as a radio traffic reporter in Las Vegas.
