MUDSLIDE FORCES FIVE HOUR CLOSURE OF HANA HIGHWAY

A mudslide on Maui forced the closure of the Hana Highway for about five hours over the weekend.The incident was reported at 9:30 Saturday morning (March 21st) near mile marker 21—that’s about 2 miles on the Keanae side of Pua’a Kaa State Wayside park.The roadway was reopened at 2:45 p.m. following a joint effort to clear the roadway by county and state public works crews.The workers used heavy equipment to clear the roadway of mud and debris.The cause of the mudslide is unknown.
