Two toddlers were injured in a home fire in Kahului last night.  The two year old male and three year old female suffered second degree burn injuries during the incident and were transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center before being flown to Kapiolani Children’s Hospital on Oahu for further treatment.

The incident was reported at 7:20 p.m. at a Kahului home located at 110 Aoloa Loop.  The two victims were within the garage bathroom when the fire started.  Acting Lieutenant Robert Stuhr with the Maui Police Department said the door was forced open by a relative, who removed the children from the burning bathroom.

An initial investigation revealed that the origin of the fire is believed to have started at the base of a gas water heater, however the cause is undetermined at this time.  Damage to the structure is estimated at $5,000 and damage to the contest is valued at $700.
