Hawaiian Islands Under Flash Flood Watch

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the FLASH FLOOD WATCH for ALL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS in effect through late Thursday night.  A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

EFFECTS:  Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop as a strong upper level low develops north of the Islands tonight, and tracks over the Islands Wednesday.  The upper low will remain near the Islands through at least Thursday, continuing the threat for flash flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:  PREPARE NOW FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF VERY HEAVY RAINFALL.  CAMPERS AND HIKERS SHOULD PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO LATER FORECASTS.   STAY AWAY FROM CREEKS, STREAMS, AND OTHER FLOOD PRONE AREAS.  REMEMBER THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RAINING WHERE YOU ARE FOR FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR.  RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
