On-air personalities from Maui’s Pacific Radio Group were among the list of radio and news talent from across the state that joined McDonald’s restaurants today in a fundraising campaign for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii.

The annual McHappy Day event, formerly known as World Children’s Day is part of a global fundraising effort now in its eighth year.  Participating restaurants donate $1 from each purchase of any Extra Value Meal during the promotion to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which in turn serves as a home away from home for seriously ill Neighbor Islander children who must go to Honolulu for medical treatment.

Radio personalities join Maui’s own Miss Ulalena in serving up orders and accepting donations at the Mc Donald’s on Puunene this afternoon.

Customers can also contribute by purchasing a $1 paper hand in the “Give a Hand” program.  Those who donate get to write their name on the hand and have it posted in the restaurant.

Last year in Hawaii, with the help of local celebrity volunteers and the community, McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii raised more than $50,000.   Worldwide, the campaign has raised more than $150 million since World Children’s Day was initiated in 2002.  Locally, McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii has raised more than $300,000 over the same period.
