Motorists traveling through South Maui may experience traffic delays through March due to construction-related work for the South Maui Community Park, and the scheduled installation of a 12’’ potable waterline. Both County projects are contracted to Goodfellow Bros., Inc.

Construction for the South Maui Community Park will require minor blasting activities with construction slated to run through March 31, 2010.  As a precautionary measure, traffic will be stopped for several minutes intermittently on Piilani Hwy between Welakahao Road and Lipoa Street between 10:30 am-12 noon and 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The controlled blasting is part of re-grading work at the project site and county officials say the public is not expected to hear audible sounds. The County and contractor also conducted direct notifications to nearby businesses residents in the immediate area.

A separate project to install a potable water line will affect traffic on South Kihei Road. The north-bound lane between Uwapo and Ohukai will be closed on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. from January 21 – March 5, 2010.  The remaining south-bound lane will be used for alternating traffic, causing delays for motorists in the area.
