The county encourages the public to attend today’s (Thursday, March 04, 2010)  Wastewater Community Working Group Meeting.  The group’s recommendations are aimed at assisting the county in making strides toward achieving Mayor Charmaine Tavares’ goal of reaching 100 percent recycling for Maui’s wastewater.  The meeting runs from 1:30 to 4:30 this afternoon at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center at 395 Waena Place in Wailuku.

The public is encouraged to attend and invited to participate in the comment period at the end of the meeting.

Convened by Mayor Charmaine Tavares in September of 2009, the community working group’s objective is to provide community-based recommendations to DEM’s Wastewater Reclamation Division.

The Maui Wastewater CWG is made up of 21 members representing a range of constituencies on the island of Maui. The March 4th meeting will be the fifth meeting held since the CWG began in October 2009 and the process is expected to continue for one year.
