Ukumehame Fire Burns One Acre

An Ukumehame brush fire scorched an estimated one-acre of land before being extinguished Thursday afternoon, March 18, 2010.

The fire was first reported at 11:18 a.m. on land near the Ukumehame Gun Range on the mauka side of the Honoapiilani Highway, and well away from any public roads.

The blaze was quickly brought under control by 11:45 a.m. and extinguished at 1:58 p.m.

County of Maui Communications Director, Mahina Martin said the Maui Fire Department’s Air One helicopter was deployed as well as a tanker unit and multiple fire engines.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
