The Bailey House Museum and the Maui Historical Society are selling fine art reproductions of recently restored paintings by artist Edward Bailey.  The giclee reproductions, available for the first time, feature 19th century paintings of a grass house at Olowalu, a landscape of Wailuku and Iao Valleys, and a scenic print of Diamond Head in Waikiki.

The prints are available at the Museum Shop on either fine art paper or canvas.  They are the same size as the original paintings and come unframed.

While officials at the Bailey House report a steady flow visitors, museum shop sales, membership contributions and other donations were at record lows in 2008 and 2009.  The Bailey House Museum today houses the largest collection of Hawaiian artifacts on public exhibit on the island of Maui.

The lower level is home to the Museum’s Archival Resource Center, which houses a library and archives including a collection of more than 8,000 historic photographs of Maui.

The Bailey House was built in 1833 and is one of the oldest structures on Maui, formerly serving as the site of the Wailuku Female Seminary.

The Maui Historical Society recently received a $7,000 grant from the Maui Electric Company for improvements to the aging infrastructure at the Bailey House.  The money will be used to complete upgrades that began in 2008 when initial funding was received.
