Maui Interscholastic League football players are being given an opportunity to demonstrate their agility at the Maui Football Combine on Saturday, May 1, 2010.  Event Director, Rodney Yap issued a media advisory saying it is the first time Maui players will not have to travel to Oahu or the Mainland to be tested in various speed, power, strength and agility drills in order to determine physical prowess.

The event is free and available for MIL football players in the 9th through 11th grad.  Applications are available online at http://hisportsfolio.ning.com/ and are due by this Friday, April 23, 2010.

The Maui Football Combine will test athletes in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, bench press (155. 185, 225), short shuttle, and L-shuttle.  The combine runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 1st at the Maui High School campus.

“Our goal is to test the athletes in the most accurate and thorough way possible, then to post the information on the internet for interested coaches to view it so they may use it to evaluate the players they are recruiting,” Yap said in a press release.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our MIL football players to showcase their talent,” said Maui Football Combine Head Coach Bobby Watson. “It’s important that our athletes, especially the underclassmen, participate and continue to try and get better. This is the first step in helping our kids get to college,” he said.
