Kahului teen suffers life threatening injuries in SUV Rollover at Hana Hwy / Dairy Rd

A 15-year-old Kahului female suffered life-threatening injuries when she was ejected from a vehicle involved in a weekend accident at the main Hana Highway, Dairy Road intersection in Kahului.

The accident was reported at around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 and involved two SUV vehicles.

According to police reports, a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, was headed west-bound on the Hana Highway when it collided with a 2010 Jeep Wrangler that was headed northbound on Dairy Road. 

The Nissan overturned during the incident, ejecting a 15-year-old female rear-seat passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt.  Police say the teen was being treated and confined at the Maui Memorial Medical Center.  The drivers and other occupants were treated and released. 

The Nissan was being operated by a 20-year-old Kahului male with three passengers: two 15-year-old Kahului females, and a 22-year-old Wailuku man.

The Jeep was driven by a 44-year-old Phoenix, Arizona man with a single passenger—a 44-year-old female also from Arizona.

Maui police and fire personnel are on the scene of a vehicle accident reported at around 7:10 p.m. at the main Hana Highway, Dairy Road intersection in Kahului.  Witnesses observed an SUV roll over several times during the collision before coming to rest on the makai side of the Hana Highway on a grassy area fronting nearby businesses.  Witnesses on scene quickly came to the aid of occupants prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
