Today is the county’s first government imposed furlough Friday.  Closed today are all county service centers and satellite offices, payment windows, administrative offices, permitting facilities and senior centers as well as the Maui fire department’s fire prevention bureau and the police department’s records and id section.  Pools are open—following a previously announced one-day per week closure schedule, and trash collection is affected on Molokai and in Hana.  On Molokai, regularly scheduled Friday pickups will be made on Wednesdays during weeks containing a furlough day. In Hana, Friday pickups will be made on Thursdays during weeks containing a furlough day. The one day per month furloughs were proposed by Mayor Charmaine Tavares and approved by the County Council as part of the Fiscal Year 2011 budget.
