Brennan gets another chance … with Raiders

It didn’t take long for Colt Brennan to find a new job. Released last week after two uneventful seasons with Washington, the former University of Hawaii quarterback has signed a one-year contract with the Oakland Raiders.

Brennan was brought in for a tryout on Saturday morning, was offered a contract in the afternoon and participated in workouts that evening. And, now, there’s an outside chance he may even see some action Thursday in Oakland’s exhibition opener at Dallas.

Following a record-breaking career at Hawaii, Brennan was Washington’s sixth-round draft pick in 2008. He was the team’s third-string QB that year and spent last season on injured reserve list after undergoing a second hip surgery in two years.

Brennan faces a tough challenge in trying to make the opening day roster and qualifying for a $395,000 salary. Oakland has four other QBs, each with considerably more pro experience than Brennan.

Jason Campbell, Brennan’s teammate at Washington, is the projected starter. Also competing for spots are Kyle Boller, a former first-rounder from Cal, as well as Charlie Frye and Bruce Gradkowski. All have seen some duty as NFL starters. Brennan has yet to take a snap in a regular-season game.

An interesting aside: Brennan’s center for two seasons at UH, Samson Satele, is starting for Oakland.

The bottom line for Brennan? A long shot is better than no shot at all.
