West Maui council candidates featured in meet and greet event at the Maui Theatre

Voters will get a chance to meet the candidates vying for the West Maui Council seat during a Meet and Greet event this Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Maui Theatre in Lahaina.  The meet and greet portion begins at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Maui Theater with a formal discussion taking place on stage beginning at 5:30 p.m. 

There are seven candidates running for the West Maui Council seat being vacated by Jo Anne Johnson, who reaches her term limit this year.  The list includes:  Su Campos, Eve Clute, Elle Cochran, Alan Fukuyama, Zeke Kalua, Keeaumoku Kapu and Paul Laub.

All Maui County registered voters will be able to cast a ballot in the non-partisan race.  Joe Pluta, event oragaizer from the sponoring West Maui Taxpayers Association Inc. (WMTA), said the forum gives voters an opportunity to make an informed choice. 

A dinner and entertainment fundraiser will follow at 7:30 p.m. to benefit the West Maui Hospital and Medical Center Foundation.  The entertainment line-up includes An Den, Tiva, Pacific Vibes, Maui Hula Halau Lexi, and Mele Pono.  Tickets are $20 for the show only, and $10 for a dinner meal prepared by Outback Steakhouse.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the reservations number at the Maui Theater–661-9914 ext.1.
