Maui Film Festival Draws Big Crowds for O’Brien Surf Film

The large turnout for Wednesday night’s Maui Film Festival screening of “Who is J.O.B” illuminates Maui’s deep love for surfing and extreme sports. The audience was jammed packed with surfers and water sports enthusiasts (illuminated by their Quicksilver and Billabong logos) who came out to see Pipeline master Jamie O’Brien’s new film. There were also many who came out to support Barry Rivers and the Maui Film Festival’s reappearance on the Wednesday night line-up at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.

The vibe was festive as laughter and smiles dominated outside at the MACC’s courtyard cafe. Vasi’s served up delicious dinners and deserts and DJ Ged took to the turntables to get the crowd grooving. The Maui Film Festival generously donated proceeds from ticket sales to SurfAid International and their efforts to help the survivors and families affected by the recent tsunami in the Mentawai Islands of Indonesia.

O’Brien concluded the film with a Q&A session and a tribute to another Pipeline master, Andy Irons, who recently passed away. Although O’Brien is know for being a “show-off,” after watching this film all you could do was fall in love with his drive and determination.
