The county’s public works department is testing the functionality of a four-way stop at the Lono/Papa Avenue intersection in Kahului.  Upon completion of the eight-week pilot project, the department will forward a recommendation to the county council on whether to make the four-way stop permanent.

In south Maui, the public works department has also started construction on a $599,888 pavement project on Kenolio Road in Kihei.  Work spans from Kihei Villages to Ohukai Road and includes some one-lane closures during construction; local traffic will be allowed.

The project includes installing an asphalt concrete and asphalt treated base course pavement section, and installing pavement striping and markers. Work will be conducted Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is scheduled for completion by February 9, 2011.
