The Natioanl Weather service has issued a High Wind Watch for the Summit of Haleakala on Maui, and the summitsof Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island, saying dangerously high winds are possible.

An upper low will approach the Big Island tonight and tomorrow, resuling in strong northeasterly winds starting tomorrow morning.

The high wind watch is in effect from Thursday morning through late Friday night.  The northeast winds will continue to increase during the day on Thursday, and may reach speeds of 45 mph with cgusts to 60 mph by later Thursday, and continuing through late Friday night.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event.  Sustained winds of at least 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur.
