The National Weather Service is forecasting light easterly winds over Maui and the rest of the state through Tuesday. An upper level trough is expected to stall and dissipate over the eastern half of the state tonight, bringing with it an increase in clouds and showers, mainly over windward portions of the Big Island and Maui beginning this evening.

A high pressure system building north of the islands is expected to move to the east during the second half of the week, bringing a return of brisk trade wind weather for the rest of the state. Forecasters say leftover moisture from this system will ride on the trades, primarily impacting windward and mauka areas later this week.
