(Update 6:55 p.m. HST Sunday, December 19, 2010)

The island of Maui is under a FLOOD ADVISORY until 9:45 p.m. Radar at 6:45 this evening showed moderate to heavy rain moving onshore from Lahaina to Makena from the Southwest.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service said rain will spread northeastward over the rest of the island of Maui over the next several hours.

The advisory includes the entire island of Maui.

The public is reminded to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff can also result in hazardous driving conditions for motorists due to ponding, reduced visibility, and poor breaking action.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is also in effect for Maui County through Monday afternoon.
