Members Sought for Maui Charter Commission

Today is the deadline to apply for a spot on the 11-member Maui County Charter Commission. The body is convened every 10 years to study and review the operation of the county government, and to propose charter amendments or to draft a new charter.

The Charter Commission will begin meeting on March 31, 2011. Applications are available at the county website, at the county building or public libraries.

The appointments are made by the Mayor with the approval of the County Council. Applications can be submitted by Wednesday, December 22, 2010 to: Mayor Charmaine Tavares, County of Maui, 200 South High Street, Ninth Floor, Wailuku, HI 96793, or faxed to (808) 270-7870.
