Gas in Wailuku, Maui is now the highest in the nation.  The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report listed a gallon of regular gas on Maui at $4.005.  That’s up 10 cents from last month and up 33 cents from a year ago.  It’s still below the highest recorded average price of $4.76 set on August 19, 2008.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.662, the highest in the nation.  The National average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.072.

While the report monitors Wailuku, Maui, there are other areas within the county that sell gas for higher prices.  The remote regions of Hana, Lanai, and Molokai often report higher rates than the county and state averages.  In fact, in May of 2008, gas on Lanai topped $5 per gallon.
