Scottish Contemporary Music 2,000 Years in the Making
Posted by Wendy Osher
The Battlefield Band is moving forward with Scotland’s past. Named after the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield, members mix old songs and traditional music with a new self-penned repertoire. The fusion of ancient and modern utilizes a variety of instruments including bagpipes, fiddle, synthesizer, guitar, bodhran and accordian.
This unique sound can be heard during a live Maui performance at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.
Of particular note for Maui fans is the song, “Ku’ula Kai,” featured on their current album, Zama Zama, which was written about a fishing legend from Hana, Maui.
Founding member Alan Reid joins band mates Ewen Henderson, Sean O’Donnell, Mike Katz and Alasdair White.
Tickets are $12, $25, or $35 (plus applicable fees). Visit the MACC Box Office, call (808) 242-SHOW (7469) or order online at MauiArts.org.
