A high surf advisory is in effect for the east facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011.

Surf heights are expected to be in the 6-9 foot range today and tonight.  The estimated surf heights are measured by the height of the face of the front of the waves.

Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break along affected shores due to rip currents, localized beach erosion and hazardous wave action.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say a high tide of approximately 1.8 feet is expected between 1:56 p.m. and 3:14 p.m. this afternoon. The next high tide of approximately 2.9 feet is expected between 2:48 a.m. and 4:06 a.m. tomorrow morning.
