Arakawa Launches “County on Your Corner” Initiative
By David Kvasnicka
Mayor Alan Arakawa today announced his “County on Your Corner” initiative, the mayor’s latest attempt to bring politics to the public. The “County on Your Corner” meetings are intended to allow the public to ask questions and make suggestions to the mayor and cabinet members. Arakawa has previously promised to increase the public’s involvement in local government.
The first event will be held Saturday March 5, 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. outside of Longs’ Drugs at Maui Mall in Kahului. Alongside Arakawa will be County Managing Director Keith Regan, Public Works Director David Goode, and Environmental Coordinator Rob Parsons.
According to the mayor’s office, the events will be typically scheduled on the first Saturday of the month in different locations.
In a written statement, Arakawa said that it was “important to connect with the community,” and that the County on Your Corner initiative would be a good way to interact with constituents on “issues that are of most interest to them.”
