The APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee is seeking “Story Ideas” that showcase Hawaii business to the world.

With estimated 2,000 news media outlets and some 20,000 attendees expected for the APEC 2011 Leader’s Meeting on November 12 and 13 this year, the Host Committee is looking to take advantage and promote Hawaii businesses and/or research projects.

The stories will be featured in informational materials provided to the national and international news media prior to, and during this almost weeklong event.

“One of the goals of the Hawaii Host Committee is to create opportunities for Hawaii businesses to gain exposure to a worldwide audience,” said Peter Ho, APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee Chair in a statement today. “This initiative is another way to raise awareness of Hawaii’s connectivity to the Asia-Pacific region, and position Hawaii as a center of innovation with excellent investment opportunities.”

In particular, the Host Committee is looking for a broad range of story idea suggestions with an emphasis in, but not limited to, the areas of:

  • Clean energy;
  • Life and health sciences;
  • Earth, sky and ocean sciences;
  • Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE); and
  • Companies or individuals who have existing relationships with one or more of the APEC economies.

Businesses can submit story ideas online or download application forms at http://www.apec2011hawaii.com/get-involved/call-stories. All submissions will be reviewed and selected by a panel of local communications and journalism professionals.
