Lahaina Structure Fire Destroys Cottage

An early morning structure fire destroyed a cottage in Lahaina, causing an estimated $124,000 in damage to the structure and its contents. Three men renting the cottage were awoken by smoke, and escaped unharmed, according to fire officials.
Crews from the Maui Fire Department responded to the first alarm at 6:21 a.m. When Lahaina and Napili fire fighters arrived on the scene, the cottage at 1342 Kahoma Street was fully engulfed in flames.
The blaze was extinguished by 9:37 a.m. In addition to the damage caused to the cottage, flamed also resulted in $11,000 in damage to the main home on the same property, and a combined $7,000 in damage to two vehicles parked near the cottage that were destroyed in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still pending investigation.
