Maui Electric Company will begin a four-week project on Tuesday to replace select utility poles providing essential service to East Maui customers.

The project will result in temporary interruptions of electrical service, as crews work to install new poles and reconnect power lines.

The project, when complete, is expected to improve reliability of service to the East Maui area.

Work will be done in four phases over four weeks, with the first phase beginning on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.  Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The affected areas in the first phase extend from Mile Marker 3 near Kaeleku to mile marker 18, East of Ke’anae, past Wailua Road.

MECO officials apologized for any inconvenience caused by the project.  “We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to improve electrical service to the east Maui community,” said MECO Spokesperson Kau’i Awai Dickson.
