Coast Guard Hosts Safe Boating Activities at Kahului Harbor

The U.S. Coast Guard kicks off Safe Boating Week with an educational event at Kahului Small Boat Ramp this Saturday, May 21, 2011.

The event promotes marine safety with a variety of services including vessel safety checks, EPIRB (emergency beacon) testing and registration, and distribution of ID/contact stickers for canoes and kayaks.  There will also be information available on use of life jackets, boating safety classes, and federal and state rules and regulations.  This family friendly event includes keiki activities and giveaways.

The USCG will have their 25-foot response boat on display, and the UCCG Auxiliary will have their operational facility vessel on display.

The Maui Trailer Boat Club will also host a Swap Meet at the same time and place.

Participating agencies include the USCG AuxiliaryFlotilla 26, USCG station Maui, and the USCG Marine Safety Office.  The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 21.
