Goddess Rock at Mulligans on the Blue and Charley’s
By Kristin Hashimoto
All powerful, all female, all rock. Goddess Alchemy Project is coming to Maui for two shows on June 5, at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea, and June 7, at Charley’s Bar and Grill in Pa’ia.
This West Coast based indie-alt band has a synthesizer-electronica, hip-hop, rap, world accents, soul sound that fuses lyrical poetry with catchy melodic lines and harmonies. The beats get inside of you as their new wave music, which uses what they call “open source soul floetics,” mixes science, symbolism, quantum physics and ancient texts in their spoken word flows and multi-voiced rap, raptures.
They have toured across the United States and have opened shows for artists such as Common and Talib Kweli. More than just a musical force, these women expand their vision into their al.KEM.y clothing design, education and outreach projects at home and abroad.
Members are: Nikila MamaWisdom, e.Ma Luna, Dakini Star, and ceLena deLphi. Also performing June 5, at Mulligans are the local boys of Gomega. Tickets are available at www.goddessalchemy.eventbrite.com for $10. The night begins at 8:00 p.m. and closes around 3:00 a.m.
These women will also perform on Oahu on June 4, with the Sex Puppets, Shakti Dance Movement, and the Kings of
Spade at Next Door on Hotel Street in Honolulu. For more information on the Goddess girls go to www.goddessalchemyproject.com. For event information visit www.mulligansontheblue.com.
