Behind the Scenes at Maui Brewing Co.
By Wendy Osher
Maui Brewing Co., one of Hawaiʻi’s fastest growing businesses is offering a behind-the-scenes tour and tasting event on Wednesday, July 13, 2011.
The session is one in a series of Taste Education events presented by Slow Food Maui in partnership with the Maui Culinary Academy and Whole Foods Market Kahului.
The tour and tasting event will be led by Owner Garrett Marrero and General Manager Lyndon Honda.
The two will discuss their creation of handcrafted beers using 100% Hawai’i ingredients and utilizing environmentally conscious practices. This includes the donation of spent grain from beer production to local ranchers for cattle feed and composting.
The Taste Education event will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 13 at the Brewpub located at Kahana Gateway Center in West Maui. Whole Foods Market Maui will provide a selection of cheeses to complement the beer tastings.
Participation for the session is limited to those who are 21 years and older. Advanced reservations and payment are required, and can be confirmed online at slowfoodmaui.org.
Founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate the 7-barrel brewpub at the Kahana location, as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lāhainā.
