Crews from Maui Electric Co. restored power to customers in East Maui following an outage reported this morning.

The outage stretched from Huleo to Hana town beginning shortly after 9 a.m.  Power was restored to customers from Huelo to Nahiku at 11:46 a.m., and to remaining customers in Hana at around 1 p.m.

Company officials say the outage was caused by a problem with reclosure equipment in Peahi.  MECO Communications Supervisor, Kau`i Awai-Dickson explained, “A reclosure is a complex form of a circuit breaker which protects the electrical transmission system from temporary voltage surges.”
