Child Learning Disabilities Focus of Free Conference

If you work with or have a child with a learning disability or mental illness, the Learning Disabilities Association of Hawaii is hosting a free “Travelling Mini Conference” featuring presentations by leading educators and mental health experts.

The “Mini Conference” is a great way to learn about community resources, connect with other parents and community members who work with mentally challenged youth. The purpose is to uncover the opportunities associated with a learning disability and discover effective modes of treatment.

Speakers include Dr. Staci Cumming, a school psychologist by the DOE Maui District Department of Special Education; Kiegan Blake, a registered Occupational Therapist for over 17 years and owner of the Maui Center for Child Development; Patricia McGrath, an educator with certificates from the Los Angeles County Office of Education, Bridges, Passport to Success, and Hui No Ke Ola Pono; and Garry Simpson, member of the Hale O Lanakila Clubhouse and King’s Cathedral. Garry will share his story of mental health recovery, and becoming an advocate for yourself and others.

This free conference takes place on Saturday July 23rd from 8am until 2pm at The Maui Hideaway on 500 North Puunene Ave in Kahului.  Registration is highly recommended, as seating is limited. To register, call 808-536-9684 or 1-800-533-9684.
