Small Craft Advisory Until 6 a.m. 7/23/11

The National Weather Service has issued a small craft advisory for Maalaea Bay on Maui, the Pailolo Channel, the Alenuihaha Channel, and leeward and southeast waters of the Big Island.  The advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 but may be extended his rough seas persist.

Forecasters from the NWS say locally strong trade winds will persist across portions of Hawaiian waters tonight.

Winds of 25 to 30 knots are expected, with gusts of up to 35 knots.  Rough seas are expected to be in the 8 to 11 foot range.

As a precaution, inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions.
