Man Critically Injured in Reported Stabbing at Luana Gardens

A Maui man was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition Sunday afternoon following a reported stabbing at Luana Gardens in Kahului.

Authorities say officers responded to a unit at the condominium complex at around 1:19 p.m. after receiving a report of a male that had been stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors.

Upon their arrival, the officers located a 35 year-old male with a puncture wound to his chest, said Lt. John Jakubczak with the Maui Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Divison.

According to authorities, an initial investigation indicated that the male and his fiancée were involved in a domestic dispute when the incident occurred.

The suspect, a 35 year-old female who resides at Luana Gardens was arrested for Assault in the First Degree and Abuse of a Family/Household Member.

Following further investigation, the case was reclassified as an Assault in the Second Degree and the suspect was released pending further investigation on that charge; however, she was charged for Abuse of a Family/Household Member.   The woman was released after posting $1,000 bail.
