ROUNDUP: Central Maui Closes With Win

The Central East Maui All-Stars ended its stay in the Little League West Regional with a 10-4 win over Red Bluff of Northern California yesterday in San Bernardino.
Central East Maui closed pool play with a 1-3 record and finished tied for fifth in the regional. The top four teams advanced to Friday’s semifinal round.
Red Bluff took a 3-1 lead after the first inning and Central East Maui responded with four runs in the top of the second.
Maui added five more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Ka‘o Mindoro went 3-for-3 with an RBI double for Central East Maui. Nawai Kaupe gave up one run on four hits and struck out six in 5.2 innings of relief to earn the victory
Renny Richmond of Haiku registered the fifth-fasteest time by an American among 16-year-olds in winning the 100-meter butterfly event at the USA Swimning Junior National championships taking place in Palo Alto, Calif. Richmond was clocked in a time of 53.88 seconds.
Richmond earlier competed in the 100 freestyle and is scheduled to participate in three more events – the 50 and 200 free as well as the 200 individual medley.
Finally, Na Ko Ikaika’s independent baseball league series against the Lake County Fielders, scheduled to begin last night was called off when the visiting team failed to make the trip because of financial difficulties.
