A 19-year-old man was rescued Friday afternoon (9/9/11) from the mountainous terrain above Waihe’e.

The dirt bike rider had injured his ankle and was unable to make his way back down the mountain, according to authorities.

Crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 1 in Wailuku were dispatched to the scene, about three miles mauka of Waihe’e School,  at 11:43 a.m.
