Yamaguchi Opening New Restaurant at Kaanapali Golf Courses
By Sonia Isotov
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin is reporting today that the Roy Yamaguchi, chef and restaurateur, is opening yet another restaurant on Maui at the Kaanapali Golf Course.
Reportedly scheduled to open sometime in December, Roy’s Restaurant at the Kaanapali Golf Courses Clubhouse will occupy nearly 5,000 square feet in space and feature the Hawaii-influenced Asian fare, known as Hawaiian fusion cuisine, for which Yamaguchi has become famous. It will be the second Yamaguchi restaurant on Maui, with the first being Roy’s Kahana Bar and Grill.
This announcement follows the recent closure of Roy’s Restaurant at the Piilani Shopping Center in Kihei. Ruby Tuesday’s is scheduled to be opening soon in its place.
In 1988, James Beard Award-winner Roy Yamaguchi opened the first Roy’s in Honolulu, Hawaii. Today there are 31 Roy’s locations around the world—23 in the continental US, six in Hawaii, one in Japan and one in Guam.
