Record Set For Front Street Mile

Maui student athletes were among those participating in the annual Front Street Mile held over the weekend in Lahaina.
A new record was set in the weekend running of “The Run Forrest Run” Front Street Mile. The event, sponsored by Bubba Gumps in Lahaina, drew participants ranging in age from five-years old to professional, world-class runners.
David Torrence of California ran the race in 3 minutes, 57 seconds, breaking an eight year old record by two seconds. The previous record was set in 2003 by Jason Lunn, who ran the race in 3 minutes, 59 seconds.
The course began near the Kenui Street intersection and proceeded a half mile before looping back.
The best time for a female runner in the event this year was 4 minutes, 39 seconds, recorded by Heather Kempf in the Elite Open Women’s Division.
