A community flu shot clinic will be held on Maui on Saturday for members of the Hawai‘i Medical Service Association (HMSA).  The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Foodland Ka’ahumanu located on Kane Street in Kahului.

Flu shots will be available while supplies last, at no cost to members of the following plans: HMSA, HMSA 65C Plus, HMSA QUEST, Akamai Advantage, BCBS, BCBS-FEP, and Medicare Part B.

HMSA recommends flu shots for children from six months through four years, pregnant women, people 50 years and older, and individuals with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.

HMSA says people who should not get a flu shot include:  Individuals who have an allergy to chicken eggs,  people who have had a severe reaction to an influenza vaccine, individuals who have developed Guillain-Barre syndrome within six weeks of getting an influenza vaccine, children less than six months old, and people who have a moderate-to-severe illness with a fever.
