Maui police released details today from the accident that forced the closure of the Honoapiilani Highway for about three hours Thursday night.
The single vehicle accident involved a pickup truck that was traveling with four occupants aboard.
Maui police say one occupant was originally listed in critical condition, but their condition was later downgraded.
Authorities say once the individual’s condition was downgraded, the scene was turned back over to patrol units.
The accident forced the closure of the highway between 9:15 p.m. Thursday, October 13, and 12:22 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011.

The Honoaiilani Highway is now open in both directions. The motor vehicle accident reported earlier in the evening has since been cleared. It could take a while before cars stuck in the delay clear, and traffic resumes a normal flow.

Initially, the accident resulted in the closure of the Lahaina-bound lane only. Now authorities say the accident is affecting both lanes of travel.
