Happy Valley Home Gutted by Early Morning Fire

A Happy Valley home was fully gutted following a fire reported early Sunday morning, October 16, 2011.
The fire was reported at 3:15 a.m. on Holowai Place at a 900 square foot house.
Responding to the scene were firefighters from Engine 1 in Wailuku; Tanker 10, Engine 10 and Rescue 10 from Wailuku, and Battalion Chiefs 3 and 6.
Crews from the Maui Fire Department had the blaze fully under control by 3:33 a.m.
One female in the home at the time of the incident was able to escape safely.
The Red Cross was notified. No injuries were reported.
The fire caused an estimated $200,000 to the structure, $20,000 to its contents, and $2,500 in damage to a vehicle.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but appears to be accidental, according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga, who said the fire may have involved electrical components.

A separate fire was reported Sunday morning, October 16, 2011 at 41 West Hawaii Street in Kahului.
The fire was reported at 8:41 a.m. and burned approximately one acre of heavy kiawe fuel load.
Responding to the scene were Engine 10, Tanker 10, Rescue 10, Engine 6 and Battalion Chief 2.
The fire was brought under control by 9:30 a.m., and crews remained on scene to conduct mop-up operations.
