BREAKING: No Tsunami Following 4+ Magnitude Big Island Quake

There is no tsunami expected following a preliminary magnitude 4.3 earthquake (according to the USGS; 4.4 prelim. magnitude according to Hawaii Volcanoes Observatory) off the Waikoloa region of the Big Island of Hawai’i.

The earthquake was reported at 2:10 p.m. HST, Wednesday, October 19, 2011.

The Hawaii Volcanoes Observatory lists the quake at 6 miles NW of Mauna Kea Summit, 8 miles ENE of Waiki`i, 9 miles N or Pohakuloa, and 31 miles WNW of Hilo.

The depth, according to the USGS, Hawaii Volcanoes Observatory is 17.1 km (10.6 miles).

Officials with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center say there is no tsunami expected, however some areas may have experienced shaking.
