The Maui Makani Classic opens a six-day window for competition tomorrow, October 27, 2011. The event is the championship leg for the American Windsurfing Tour and marks the return of the sport to Ho`okipa Beach Park, the international mecca of windsurfing.

One-hundred competitors from 20 countries are on Maui for the competition, including participants from Argentina, China, South Korea, Morocco, Ireland and Japan.

Spectators are reminded that there is no parking allowed on the sides of the highway. Event organizers have set up free parking at Old Maui High School in Hamakuapoko with a free shuttle bus service throughout the competition.
