A brush fire just past the Kailua area of East Maui burned a half-acre before being brought under control on Thursday afternoon, October 27.

The Maui Fire Department’s Air-1 helicopter was able to reach the scene within 20 minutes to assist with water drops.

Maui fire officials say the helicopter assistance prevented the blaze from spreading to an area of thick grass, and suppressed the fire until other units arrived.
