A restroom fire at Maui’s War Memorial complex on Friday night resulted in an estimated $10,000 in damage.
The incident was reported at 7:35 p.m. at a 600 square foot restroom located near the tennis courts, between the stadium and the swimming pool.
The fire was reported during the high school football game between Maui High School and Lahainaluna, taking place at the nearby War Memorial Football Stadium.
Engine-1 from Wailuku, and Rescue-10 from Kahului responded to the scene. The first unit arrived at 7:42 p.m. and crews had the fire fully extinguished by 8:49 p.m.
Maui Fire officials say the fire started in a rubbish can, and then spread to the structure.
The fire damaged the truss beams and roofing of the restroom, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
